Yunnan to promote over 1,000 energy-saving and new energy buses

By the end of 2012, the total mileage of highways in the province reached 219,000 kilometers, of which highway mileage reached 2,943 kilometers, high-grade highway mileage reached 14,000 kilometers, total rural roads reached 180,000 kilometers, and inland navigation mileage reached 3,375 kilometers. There are more than 9 million civilian vehicles in the province, of which 48,000 are buses, 500,000 are on various roads, and road transportation accounts for nearly 90% of the province’s comprehensive transportation system. The province's total energy consumption is about 8%.

With the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization in our province and the escalating consumption structure of residents, energy consumption in transportation will also show a rigid increase. The development of a green and low-carbon transportation system is an important measure for the transportation industry to properly respond to climate change and benefit future generations. In 2012, the entire province eliminated 5,578 old gasoline and diesel operating vehicles and operated 9 ships, and the unit consumption of road and passenger vehicle integrated gasoline and diesel fuels decreased by 0.51% year-on-year, while that of inland river ships decreased by 0.15% year-on-year.

The conference revealed that the Ma Zhao Expressway under construction will become the first batch of pilot projects for green low-carbon highways in China. Kunming City is listed as a pilot city for the construction of a low-carbon transportation system for the Ministry of Transport. The “transit city” construction project is being accelerated. It is estimated that by 2015, more than 1,000 energy-saving and new energy buses will be popularized and the share of public transportation will be more than 60%. .
