VAMA Releases Lightest Car Board Solutions in China

Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Panel Co., Ltd. (VAMA), the supplier of high-tech steel products and solutions, held its first "Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Board Technology Forum" in Shanghai on March 18. The Forum lasted two days and shared the advanced technologies and development trends in the field of automotive panels with the public through technical exchanges and lightweight automotive panel solutions. The "S-inmotion", ArcelorMittal's lightweight automotive steel solutions, first appeared in China at the forum, and prototypes using its technical concept were displayed on site. The solution can reduce body weight, enhance vehicle safety performance, and save energy consumption. It is a milestone innovation in the global automotive industry.

The forum was hosted by VAMA and received strong support from ArcelorMittal. More than 300 guests from more than 50 automakers and contractors and 65 global business and technical experts from ArcelorMittal came to the forum. The "S-inmotion" solution and the prototype of the body prototype became the focus of the forum. Valin Steel senior officials attached great importance to this event and shared the good development trend of VAMA hot-rolled substrate materials at the forum.

Wang Jun, chairman of VAMA, said at the forum: “With the rapid development of China’s automobile industry, the market’s demand for the quantity and quality of automotive panels is constantly escalating. VAMA will focus on the Chinese market and be committed to providing the world’s leading high-tech automotive steel products. And solutions. At the same time, we will work closely with car manufacturers and supply chain partners to promote safer, more environmentally friendly car production and promote the sustainable development of China's automotive steel industry.”

Build China's Leading Automotive Board Manufacturer

Driven by the rapid growth of the Chinese auto market, the market demand for auto panels, especially high-end products, continues to grow. However, domestic producers can only supply high tensile strength steels with a strength of up to 1000 MPa. For advanced high strength steels (AHSS) and Usibor® with strengths exceeding 1000 MPa, local equipment manufacturers rely on imports. The annual import volume of China's auto plates has reached 1.5 million to 2 million tons in recent years. To meet this market demand, VAMA aims to achieve import substitution, and positions its products in high-tech steel products. VAMA CEO Sanjay said: "As a crystallization of the sincere cooperation between Valin Steel and ArcelorMittal, VAMA has strong technical advantages, management experience and brand strength. We are very confident to build VAMA into a Chinese car plate manufacturing. The businessman's 'Gao Fu Shuai'."

As a full-scale industrial chain project, automotive panel manufacturing involves the purchase of steel-making raw materials, advanced hot-rolling, cold-rolling and galvanizing technologies, and sales and comprehensive services. VAMA's core competitiveness will be perfectly reflected in these links. Based on the support of ArcelorMittal's global R&D center and the team of engineers resident in the Asian market, VAMA will work closely with automakers to participate in the early design of automobiles and realize the personalized product solutions provided on request. The local team of Valin Steel will also support VAMA in quality control and help build a complete supply chain network, laying a solid foundation for VAMA to provide world-class substrates.

In addition, VAMA will also introduce ArcelorMittal's most advanced third-generation automotive plate production technologies, including ultra-high-strength steels (AHSS and UHSS) with a strength of 1200 MPa and Usibor 1500. These high-strength steels will be used to produce high-end automotive panels to meet the higher safety, light weight, corrosion resistance and energy efficiency standards in the automotive industry.

VAMA has introduced "S-inmotion", an innovative and innovative automotive steel solution for the Chinese automotive market, with more than 60 integrated diversification solutions including pressure hardened steel (PHS) and advanced high strength steel (AHSS) ). "S-inmotion" also includes a lightweight body-in-white (BiW), door cover, and chassis lightweighting solution that is based on the most advanced laser welding and thermoforming technologies. It can greatly reduce the weight of the car body. And save vehicle energy consumption. According to Jurgen Cobbaut, Chief Technical Officer of VAMA, “The thinning and lightweighting of automotive plates by increasing the toughness of automotive steel is the current mainstream trend. Take C-Class for example, S-inmotion optimizes The weight of 43 parts of the car can reduce the body weight by approximately 19% (74 kilograms) compared to cars produced by conventional technologies, reducing the overall life cycle by 14%.

Chinese and Western cooperation to share cutting-edge technologies and globalization resources

VAMA is jointly funded by Valin Steel and ArcelorMittal and will be officially put into production in June 2014. The two parties have their own advantages. Valin Steel's in-depth knowledge of the Chinese market and ArcelorMittal's experience in technology and project management resources will be the cornerstone of VAMA's future success.

In order to enhance the competitiveness of VAMA in the domestic automotive panel market, ArcelorMittal's global R&D capabilities, production technologies, networks, supply chain management and customer service will all be fully utilized in VAMA.

The production of automobile steel must rely on the double support of rich experience and proprietary technology. Under the transfer agreement, VAMA's production and sales teams are learning this knowledge through ArcelorMittal's global automotive industry network, so that in the future, tailor-made steel solutions can be tailored to each customer. With the strong support of both partners, VAMA has sent a team to the workshops of ArcelorMittal Europe and Brazil to participate in the training of production, quality control and supply chain management.

In addition, ArcelorMittal has invited experienced experts from all over the world to come to China and work closely with local teams to jointly invest in VAMA project construction. This high-efficiency international team of Chinese and Western companies work together to achieve the vision of VAMA's "One Team, One Dream", making VAMA present a multicultural culture and a more unique international vision for the market, thus better serving the global automotive manufacturers. Provide high quality products and service support.
