Forge Motors recently reported that Ford Motor Co. had filed a lawsuit against Fiat's luxury car manufacturer Ferrari for alleged trademark infringement. The accusation that the latter named the 2011 Formula 1 car as "F150" violated the trademark rights of the Ford F-150 pickup.
Ford submitted the indictment to the Federal Court saying: "The Ferrari F150 logo is similar to that of the Ford F-150 Pickup Truck. Ferrari names its new car as the F150, which is intended to benefit from the good reputation of the F-150 pickup. Trademark infringement."
Ford asked Ferrari to stop using the F150's name and compensate for the $100,000 damages. Fiat owns 85% of Ferrari. The Ford F-150 pickup is the best-selling model in the United States.
Ferrari once said that in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, Ferrari named its new car F150. Ferrari and Ford have been contending in the racing field.
