New materials that can capture carbon dioxide come out

A recent report released by the US scientists in the recently published "Science" magazine said that they have developed a new type of material capable of isolating and trapping carbon dioxide molecules, which has an important role in reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emission technologies. Enables power plants to increase carbon dioxide capture efficiency without the use of toxic materials.

The material was developed by a research team at the University of California, Los Angeles. The new materials belong to the group of "zeolite imidazole ester framework materials" (ZIFs), which consist of metal atoms bridged by multiple imidazole ring-type organic molecules. This material has a porous and chemically stable structure, allowing it to have a larger surface area to absorb carbon dioxide, and it will not decompose even at high temperatures, and it will remain stable even after boiling for one week in water or organic solutions. The surface area contained in a 1 gram weight can be up to 2,000 square meters.

In the experiment, the researchers synthesized a total of 25 crystal structures of ZIFs and confirmed that three of them have high selectivity for capturing carbon dioxide. Experiments have shown that this new material can absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide but does not absorb other gases.
