Mitsubishi Motors and LG Chemical Co., Ltd. Develop Electric Vehicle Battery
Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and South Korea's LG Chemical Co., Ltd. announced at the end of September 2010 that they will jointly develop advanced lithium-ion battery systems for electric vehicles.
LG Chem will first supply lithium-ion batteries for electric prototype cars, and the two companies will develop battery systems that will add power control facilities. Mass production will be carried out at Mitsubishi Motors' Nagoya Plant.
The two companies will work together to improve the performance and safety of new battery systems.
GS Yuasa, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) formed a joint venture lithium battery Japan (Lithium Energy Japan) in 2007 to manufacture high-capacity and high-performance lithium-ion batteries for i-MiEV electric vehicles.
