Michelin signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Beijing Sanitation Group on the development of used tire industry
In recent years, China has become the world tire production and consumption of superpower, but also scrap tires generated power. At present, China's rubber consumption accounts for about 30% of the world's total rubber consumption, ranking first in the world for many years. According to incomplete statistics, in 2015 China produced about 300 million waste tires and weighed about 10 million tons. Therefore, it is particularly important to speed up the construction of a recycling system for used tires in China, accelerate the research and development of used tire retreading and recycling technologies in line with national conditions, and continuously improve the comprehensive utilization level of used tires.

In response, Mr. Luo Wei, deputy general manager of Beijing Sanitation Group, said, “Beijing sanitation has long been committed to various areas of urban and rural environmental comprehensive services, urban mineral resources development and other fields. In recent years, we have begun to enter the renewable resources recycling industry, and strive to promote the use of waste Tire recycling and recycling of waste rubber The Michelin Group is a world leader in tire technology and has advanced technologies in tire retreading and used tire processing, as well as mature tire management service capabilities. We hope that through this strategic cooperation, we can work together. Development of scrap tire industry in China."
At the meeting, both parties actively discussed and interacted on environmental protection and waste tire management topics in large cities. And initially reached three points of intention. First, establish a business model of “tire + fleet management†in the solid waste stream. Second, Michelin will consider the distribution needs of Beijing sanitation in its development plan for the retreading tire business. Third, it will use scrap tires. For the processing of raw materials and production of reclaimed rubber, both parties reached consensus on the technical level. The two parties stated that they will promote the collaboration project as soon as possible and set an industry benchmark for future promotion to more cities.
As a leader in the global tire industry, Michelin has advocated a "recycling economy strategy", namely, a "4R strategy" for many years. It reduces, reduces, recycles, recycles, and renews. The joint efforts to reduce the consumption of raw materials in the production process, to extend tire life with leading maintenance and truck and bus tire retreading technologies, and to explore the value of more used tires through projects such as the Global Tire Recycling Program, and also to develop Innovative renewable biological raw materials.
Michelin has continued to break through the boundaries of today’s technology for 125 years and continues to innovate to increase the sustainable transportation of people and goods.
