Jilin Petrochemical reformed the ammonia plant by adopting advanced technology at that time, turning the original coal chemical route into the use of the company's own self-made residual oil as raw materials, and at the same time optimizing the configuration of downstream products; and stopping the production of loss-making urea products. A part of ammonia synthesis equipment is used as a raw material for concentrated nitric acid equipment, and the other part is used as a raw material for acrylonitrile, butanol, and other devices, which extends the industrial chain and increases the added value of downstream products.

Compared with the old system, the newly-built ammonia plant was compressed from the past 1 system, 6 workshops to 1 workshop and 19 units; the equipment was reduced from more than 1650 units to more than 400 units; on-job staff In the past, 1,150 people had been reduced to 159. The energy consumption of installations has dropped drastically. Only one electricity consumption has been reduced from 1600 kWh to 92 kWh, saving 470 million kWh of electricity annually.
