Since this sponge is made entirely of natural wood, a simple and cost-effective method is used, and therefore, it is reproducible and sustainable.

After further mechanical and electrical testing of the sponge, the researchers used it in a finger strain sensor prototype. This material can also be used in water purification devices, energy storage and communication technologies such as supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries.
