Global Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Sales Decline by 20.7% in 2009
According to an external report, Volkswagen AG recently stated that in 2009 Volkswagen sold a total of 354,770 light commercial vehicles globally, a drop of 20.7% compared with 447,244 in 2008.
Among them, Volkswagen Caddy became the best-selling commercial vehicle model for the public in 2009 with sales of 139,826 units. The sales volume of the T5 series models was followed by 116,503 units.
According to Stephan Schaller, CEO of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Division, “The financial crisis has had a huge impact on Volkswagen’s sales of commercial vehicles in 2009, and commercial vehicles have not been included in the subsidies granted by various governments. These factors have led to a sharp decline in sales of commercial vehicles in 2009. Although we did not stop the sales from falling sharply, we successfully succeeded in increasing the distance between our competitors and us.In 2009, Volkswagen’s commercial vehicles ranked first in sales in the European market and the German market.
Stephan Schaller predicted that the global commercial vehicle market in 2010 is still not optimistic, but compared with 2009, market demand in 2010 will be somewhat warmer.
