Brain surgery is done using electrode mapping
Needless to say, brain surgery requires extremely high precision, but there has been no great progress in the past two decades. Now, if you are still using clunky, inaccurate technology oriented during the 1990s, is it too far behind? Researchers can have a better approach: they have developed a grid-based electrode brain mapping tool that is both easier and more accurate to operate. Instead of relying on the usual metal electrodes, they switch to conductive polymers that are so tiny.
The result is that it fits more closely into the brain (giving it better readings) and provides a higher resolution in the brain mapping device. The real test confirmed this, and the new device can capture more details.
There is still a lot of work to be done: Scientists want to build a high-density electrode grid and verify that the device can stay in your body for a long time without problems. This may take several years and can really implement the technology. If, however, when they do, this technique can make brain surgery quite safe.
