· BMW plans to further increase its annual production capacity of 450,000 units in China
According to a Reuters report on May 19, the German automaker BMW Group said it has invested a total of 1 billion euros (about 7.7 billion yuan) in two Chinese factories over the past three years to upgrade the production line. Once the upgrade plan is completed, BMW's annual production in China will reach 450,000 cars.
BMW has two factories, namely the Dadong and Tiexi factories in Shenyang. Today, BMW produces the long-wheelbase version of the 5-series sedan at the Dadong plant and is preparing to produce the X3 off-road vehicle at its joint venture partner, BMW Brilliance. In addition, BMW is renovating the southern region of the Dadong plant to increase plant flexibility. The Tiexi plant in the west of Shenyang is responsible for the production of BMW's X1 long-wheelbase version of the off-road vehicle, the 2 Series, the long-wheelbase version of the 3 Series and the 1 Series sedan.
BMW also pointed out that a new high-voltage battery factory is currently under construction and will be responsible for assembling batteries for plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are expected to be put into use in the second half of 2017.
In 2016, BMW sold more than 516,000 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce cars in China. The group plans to launch 14 new or redesigned models in 2017
