Allegro Introduces Full Bridge Brushless DC Motor Driver
Allegro introduces a new full-bridge motor driver for driver low-voltage bipolar brushless DC motors. Motor rectification can be achieved by using a single Hall element sensor to detect the rotational position of the polar alternating ring magnet. The high-density CMOS semiconductor process ensures the integration of all necessary electronic components. The relevant electronic components include Hall element sensors, motor control circuits, and full bridge outputs. Low voltage design techniques have been used to implement device functions as low as 1.8VVDD. This fully integrated single-chip solution enhances reliability, including reverse battery protection and output short-circuit protection, without the need for any external support components.
The Allegro A1442 uses soft switching algorithms to reduce audible switching noise and EMI interference. The micropower sleep mode can be enabled with an external signal to reduce current consumption and facilitate battery management for portable electronics. This feature allows the removal of FET transistors used to turn the device on and off. In addition, the device provides an active function for motor braking. Motor braking can be used to improve the stop/start cycle of the Caller ID feature in vibration mode.
The A1442 has been optimized for use in vibrating motors such as mobile phones, pagers, electric toothbrushes, handheld video game controllers and low power fan motors. The small package and slim profile make this device ideal for applications where printed circuit board area and component headroom are important.
The device features a surface mount lead-free (lead frame 100% nickel-palladium plated) 6-lead MLP miniature leadframe package with exposed heatsink for enhanced thermal dissipation. The 6-pin MLP/DFN (suffix EW) package and 1.5mm x 2mm x 0.4mm size make it the thinnest MLP on the market.
