South Africa Solar Project Urgently Needs Foreign Investment

A few days ago, the Refrigeration Express reporter was informed that South Africa’s government spokesman, Tengba Masecco, stated that South Africa has officially launched a plan for a 100 megawatt high-power solar power plant. The South African government hopes to receive strong investments from foreign consortiums and agencies.

South Africa News Agency quoted Masco as saying that the solar power project is located in Abingdon, the capital city of North West Province in South Africa. It is an important project for the development of clean energy in South Africa. Due to lack of funds, the construction of this solar power project has encountered obstacles. The project is expected to cost 150 billion rand (about 20.6 billion US dollars).

Masseco said that the location and natural environment of the solar power project are very suitable for the construction of solar power plants. The South African government has identified the green and environmentally friendly economy as the main driving force for the next phase of South Africa’s economy. This will not only create a large number of jobs, but also reduce South Africa’s carbon emissions.

South Africa is a major power producer in Africa, and its power output accounts for two-thirds of the total in Africa, of which almost 90% comes from coal-fired power generation. In recent years, with the increase in electricity demand, South Africa's "rich country" began to suffer from power shortages. While focusing on the development of nuclear power, South Africa is also paying more attention to the use of clean renewable energy such as solar energy.
