Isuzu's annual production of 200 units of Guangzhou Automobile and Isuzu broke up in March
GAC Group is getting closer by establishing a joint venture with Hino Motors. At the same time, it is further away from Isuzu Motors. The reporter recently learned that Isuzu Motors, Japan’s largest truck manufacturer, plans to sell its 49% stake in Guangzhou Isuzu Bus Company to GAC Group by the end of March, and the “split†of both parties has entered a countdown period. This result means that GAC Group, which has been actively preparing for the overall listing of the Group, will accelerate the restructuring of its commercial vehicle segment.
Guangzhou Isuzu only 200 annual production
It is reported that the cause of Isuzu’s withdrawal is due to fierce price competition in the Chinese market and sluggish domestic ultra-luxury passenger car market. The low-cost passenger cars of Chinese local and Korean manufacturers almost covered the entire market, and Isuzu’s sales of high-end products have been hit hard. Although the annual capacity of the Guangzhou Isuzu Bus is 1,000, it only produces 150-200 buses a year, and the loss is several million dollars a year.
In March 2000, Guangzhou Isuzu Bus Co., Ltd. was established with a joint venture period of 20 years. The registered capital of the company is 46.8 million U.S. dollars, among which GAC Group and Japan Isuzu Motors respectively hold 51% and 49%. Guangzhou Isuzu Bus Co., Ltd. had planned to produce 800 vehicles and 400 chassis. However, according to statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Guangzhou Isuzu Bus Co., Ltd. actually produces less than 200 buses a year.
According to sources, after successfully reselling shares in the joint venture with GAC, Isuzu will focus on cooperation with Qingling Motors.
GAC Completely Reorganizes Commercial Vehicles
The direct reason for the divestment of Isuzu cars is that the sales of Guangzhou Isuzu products are not smooth and it is difficult to reach the joint venture's expectations, and the deeper reasons are related to the overall strategic adjustment of commercial vehicles of GAC Group. According to sources, Guangzhou Automobile Group and Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., after reorganizing Hino Motors, are about to start reorganizing their passenger car assets, leading to the exit of the Isuzu Motors that are in conflict with the Hino Project, and even the Yangcheng Passenger Bus will be reorganized.
On December 24 last year, the Guangzhou Automobile Co., Ltd. joint venture commercial vehicle project officially laid a foundation, the two sides added a total investment of 3.1 billion yuan, and will become China's largest commercial vehicle production base after completion. The joint venture company established by the two parties will focus on trucks. After integrating Guangzhou Automobile's Yangcheng Motor, which originally produced light trucks, the company will also manufacture and sell light trucks and heavy trucks. At the same time, Guangzhou Automobile Group's bus resources are fully integrated into the vehicle, and the light passenger project of the original Yangcheng Automobile has been incorporated into the Denway bus through reorganization, which has enabled Denway to produce a full range of vehicles. Bus company. In addition, Shenye Hino, which was reorganized at the time of the establishment of Guangzhou Automobile Co., Ltd., will still produce Hino commercial buses. These products conflict with the products of Guangzhou Isuzu.
According to industry analysts, Guangzhou Isuzu did not have much room in the new map of Guangzhou Automobile Commercial Vehicles. In addition, its products partially overlap with Guangzhou Automobile Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Isuzu’s sluggish performance. Shareholders have long lost confidence in this project. It will be sooner or later. Our reporter Huang Xiwei
