Indonesia considers withdrawal from OPEC again
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said recently that the country is considering whether it should withdraw from OPEC. This is not the first time for the Indonesian government to consider whether or not to withdraw from OPEC because the only member of OPEC in Southeast Asia since the beginning of this century has become a net oil importer.
In recent years, the Indonesian government has appointed a team to study Indonesia's OPEC member status, but the team suggested that Indonesia continue to stay in OPEC to maintain good relations with other oil-producing countries, especially Middle East oil-producing countries.
Market analysts condemned the uncertainty of Indonesian law, which has abolished the enthusiasm of Indonesia's upstream oil business, making the current Indonesian crude oil production drop to the lowest level in more than 30 years. At the same time, the demand for petroleum products in Indonesia is continuously increasing. In April of this year, crude oil production in Indonesia was 859,853 barrels per day, and the trade deficit of oil importing and exporting countries reached a record high of 794.9 million U.S. dollars.
