Highly efficient production of isobutylene by carbon-ejecting MTBE for industrialization

The project of cracking methyl isobutyl ether (MTBE) to produce high-purity isobutylene catalyst project jointly developed by Sinopec Fushun Petrochemical Research Institute and its partners has passed the technical appraisal organized by Sinopec in Beijing.

New achievements We have developed a special WT3-1 catalyst for high-efficiency MTBE pyrolysis to isobutylene and corresponding process matching technologies. The industrial application results show that under the appropriate operating conditions, the conversion rate of MTBE is greater than 99.5%, the selectivity of isobutylene is greater than 99.6%, and the unit production capacity is 8.79 times that of the original catalyst. At the same time, this technology also has the advantages of less by-products, high catalyst activity, good stability, less coke, and easy to change agents.
